What you have to know about safety blades
Which blades should I use?

All double-edge blades can be used with our safety razors. We have seen that some blades are not as accurate as others probably due to small process variations in the blade manufacturing process.

Due to the tight tolerances of our razors, it’s important the blades are accurate so we advise you to try a new blade of a different batch if this situation happens.

We like to challenge our customers to use the sharpest blades they can find! This is because sharp blades truly show the benefits of our clamping system and the high tolerances of our products.

With a normal razor, you would get micro-vibration and blade chatter with any blade. This will remove all the pleasure and comfort during shaving. Many people don’t like to use sharp blades because, due to their sharpness, this micro-vibration will be more noticeable and cause harm to the skin (blade chatter is the skin’s worst enemy when it comes to nicks and razor burn).

In the Masamune and Muramasa Series, the control of the blade vibration is so much better than even with the sharpest blade on the market,  you will have a smooth shave!

Where can I purchase replacement double-edge blades?

Double-edge blades can be purchased from various sources. Here are some common options:

  1. Our online store.
  2. Online or local shaving stores: Numerous stores specialize in shaving products and offer a wide range of double edge blades.
  3. Supermarkets and Drugstores: Many supermarkets and drugstores have a grooming section that includes shaving supplies. Double-edge blades can often be found there, either individually or in packs.
  4. Barbershops: Some barbershops sell shaving products, including double-edge blades. It’s worth checking with your trusted barbershop to see if they offer blades for sale.

When purchasing double-edge blades, consider factors like blade sharpness, durability, and compatibility with your razor. It’s advisable to read reviews, compare prices, and choose blades that suit your personal shaving preferences.

Remember to exercise caution while handling and disposing of used blades, as they are sharp and require proper disposal methods for safety.

When to replace the spare blade?

The recommended replacement time varies depending on the frequency of use and the manufacturer, but as a guideline, we recommend replacement after 5 to 8 uses.

How to recycle your blades?

Collect your used blades in a designated container, such as a blade bank or a puncture-resistant container.

It’s important to contact your local recycling center or waste management facility to inquire about their guidelines (such as designed drop-off) for recycling razor blades.

Know when to change your razor blade
  • Dullness: if you find your razor tugging or pulling at your hair rather than gliding smoothly, it’s a clear signal that the blade has dulled and requires replacement;
  • Skin irritation: an aging razor blade can lead to skin irritation, redness, and razor burn. If you notice increased discomfort or sensitivity after shaving, it’s time to switch out the blade for a fresh one;
  • Decreased efficiency: as razor blades wear out, their effectiveness diminishes, resulting in a less satisfactory shave. If you’re repeatedly going over the same area to achieve smoothness, it’s a telltale sign that it’s time to change your blade.
How to extend the life of razor blades?
  • Rinse thoroughly: after each shave, rinse your razor blade thoroughly under running water to remove any hair, shaving cream, or soap residue;
  • Dry properly:store your razor in a dry area between uses to prevent moisture buildup, which can lead to rust and dullness;
  • Use light pressure:avoid applying excessive pressure while shaving, as this can accelerate blade dullness and increase the risk of nicks and cuts.
